Sketchbook

A stickybeak into the process.

Sketchbooks are for the messy bits, the silly bits, the throwing-spaghetti-at-the-wall bits. At the moment, I sketch in a cheap A5 spiral notebook with a Pentel Brush Sign Pen. Drawing in ink keeps me honest; I've found pencils make it too tempting to erase my lines until they're "perfect".

My first ever finished comic was a haunted sharehouse comedy (The Sharehouse at 41 Deadman Place) and recently I've been playing around with the format again. Housing insecurity is unfortunately still a super relevant topic. I wanted to test out some new digital techniques to get away from the crisp inks I've been doing for Get Your Story Straight—this is me working directly from the sketch and erasing the lines I didn't want to keep.


I'm not sure if it's spooky enough. I have got to get spookier.
